Meet Our Pastor
Thanks for taking the time to visit our site. It has been my privilege to serve as the Pastor here since 2010. Our church is pretty unique - founded in 1879, we've been around for quite a while. At the same time, we are relatively new to the Calvary Chapel movement, having been affiliated with them for just under two years now.
We do our best to keep things simple around here. We emphasize grace a lot; grace that is obtained through simple faith in the work of Christ on the cross. Receiving that grace opens a person up to a whole new dimension of living - love for God, fellowship with Christ and His followers, and a growing sense of purpose and destiny for their own life.
More than anything, it is that unfolding sense of destiny in people's lives that motivates me to be a pastor. To help them develop their gifts; to understand and respond to the calling that God has placed upon their lives. It is my firm conviction that every believer has a ministry. It has also been my observation through many years of pastoral work that such ministries are best cultivated in the context of an ongoing commitment to a specific community of faith.
It is only natural that as people grow in their faith and in their walk with the Lord, they will grow in their particular expression of ministry. As Jesus said to His desciples - "Herein is My Father glorified, that you bear much fruit." For our part, Gateway is committed to do whatever we can to help facilitate that type of vibrant, fruit-bearing growth in people's lives.
What can you expect when you come to worship with us? Well, I'll tell you what we shoot for. It is my belief that when a person comes to church, they should be able to anticipate - on some level - a genuine encounter with Christ. Lives are changed when that happens. And in a world where so many people are desperate for a change, I am determined to do whatever it takes to get the word out: Jesus can turn things around.
I look forward to seeing you soon. We'll do our best to make you feel welcome. Jesus has already done His best to make you feel loved. Come on by, and see for yourself.

Meet Our Children's Church Director
Greetings. Fayedean Lewis is my name, and I grew up in the Santa Barbara area. My family includes an amazing daughter, Nicole, and four beautiful grandchildren. Nicole and three granddaughters live in Atlanta, while one grandson lives here in Marysville. I have many other relatives who live in the Marysville and Sacramento areas.
It is my pleasure to be the Children's Director at Gateway Calvary Chapel. I work with the infant/toddler, preschool, and primary grades, along with eight wonderful and supportive team members. I have been teaching and directing at both Christian and secular education programs for over twenty years. My college education is in Early Childhood Education and Child Development.
Recently, I retired from Yuba College where I worked for twenty years as an instructional specialty/master teacher in the Child Development Lab.
Sharing God's Word with others and teaching children has been the major focus of my life. I accepted Christ at a very early age, and was baptized at the age of 12. Even then, I felt the call on my life to share and teach God's Word to other children.
For as long as I can remember, I have enjoyed reading to and interacting with children.
I love our children at Gateway, and am grateful for the heartfelt connections made with them and their families. Nothing compares with a child's expression when their heart is touched by God's love. What a blessing it is to share their joy, as the friendships between the children and teachers in our ministry continue to grow.
Our children's worship curriculum helps us to explore the Bible in ways that kids both understand and remember. It is designed to reinforce the Bible's teaching on God's love and other important truths, and everything is presented in a way that the children can relate to and enjoy. We do all that we can to ensure that Gateway Kids look forward to their time here each and every week.
I am very excited about what God is doing in the hearts and lives of our children and their families. I look forward to meeting you at Gateway Calvary Chapel.
In Christ's love,
~ Fayedean Lewis
